How this full-time rv family Makes Money & Travels

Today’s interview is with Aaron and Mandy from Wilson Grand Adventures. They are a full-time RV family who live and travel in their gorgeously renovated Class A motorhome.

If your new here, we started a blog series where we interview various full-time travelers, sharing how they make money and travel. Our goal is to help inspire and educate others on the various ways to work remotely while living a nomadic lifestyle. We have been full time RVing for over two years. We support ourselves by investing in real estate; specifically in mortgage notes. Today’s blog shares a different way to earn money and travel full time. Let’s dive into Mandy and Aaron’s story as and learn how they are able to make money and travel full-time.

Tell us your story! What made you want to take the leap to full time rving?

Before we started RVing in 2019, we traveled part-time staying in hotels for around three and a half years. We were gone more than we were home and I was starting to feel that the unpacking/packing was getting to be too much. So we decided to switch to full-time RV living. We decided to rent our house instead of sell and hit the road in February of 2019!

did one partner take more convincing than the other – or were you both on board?

I (Mandy) mentioned it to Aaron and he kind of just looked at me like I was crazy. We didn’t talk about it for a week. Then he said, “let’s do it”!

Tell us about your rv!

We have a 2000 Damon Challenger 35′ motorhome. We fully renovated the entire inside and painted the outside. The kids have their own bunkbeds, a table that seats four, 2 custom barn-doors, a laundry chute, and lots of custom storage areas. We love renovating and DIY projects so renovating our RV was a fun project for us. Of course we encountered our share of ups and downs since it was our first time renovating an RV but we are glad we did it. We love the finished product!

How are you able make money and travel?

Aaron has been in sales for several years. He has almost always worked remote. So instead of working from home, he’s works from the road. In terms of a job, we had nothing to change so that was easy for us! Aaron’s day is usually based around sales calls and connecting with customers. Sometimes he will work from the beach while I play with the kids.

what is one piece of advice you would give to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

If this is something you have been wanting to do, just go for it! If you don’t like it, you can always go back to where you are from. Keep it simple – you don’t have to start out with the biggest RV with all the bells and whistles. Make a list of a few “must have” items you want in an RV and stick to that. Stay within your budget – if not, you’ll be spending most of your money on an RV instead of the adventure!

What has been your favorite part of RV travel so far?

We are at a new location every fews days or once a week. It’s been so fun to experience a new place all the time – from new beaches all over the country, to mountains, to busy cities! There’s always so much to do for anyone of any age. However, our kids are little enough that they just think we are on a constant vacation. Another part we really enjoy is having a small space. We only have “stuff” we love. It’s less to take care of and clean which means more time having fun and enjoying each other.
